908 the bottom chassis shot is of a Jennings AC40,had 10 watts more output, similar to an AC30,but built as a breakaway from whoever owned Vox at the time.It exists believe me!

electricskychurch,I had a block logo JTM45 that belonged to Music Ground, pictured at my house with the loads of other Vox's and a real 18 Watt Marshall combo that I couldn't give away in 1994 in Pennsylvania,at that time.My own personal JTM 45,in my pictures,is a late '66 script logo, with the end blocks, identical to George's current JTM45/100 chassis.
I have played all the original Marshall plexi amps and earlier, that's why I find the Handwired amps to be so disimilar to the originals.

I have 1993 reissue and they really did a good job on mine. I have played it next to a 62 JMI that Plexi Palace restored and it compared very well.
Only the bottom picture of those three is an AC40, the other two are AC15s.

I think the extra 10W in an AC40 was created by the marketing department, 'cause the voltages are mostly the same.

Thanks for the pics Yngwie.

I'm taking this topic out of its grave...

Is anyone aware of any builder or any unknown metal artist in this world who sells perfect replicas of the VOX AC15 chassis and copperplate faceplates?

I'm desperately looking for a store or an individual who makes them but I can't find any... :what:

Thanks!

I don't think there are any unfortunately. i'm happy with the ac30, can't understand why anyone would prefer an ac15 really

Less volume maybe? Crunches sooner? More portable?

I don't think you've heard an original AC15 on the EF86 channel then...I just had the opportunity to try out a '63 AC15 Twin with 2 Fane speakers, and it was probably the most heavenly amp experience I've ever had...

yes, but the ac30/4s are even better. AC30s used ef86s as well around 1960. My ac30 has the ef channel (with matchless tone control), top boost channel and normal/bright channel as well as bias wiggler tremolo. the weber chassis is great

I don't like the current trend towards smaller amps. there may be a 3 db 2lbs difference but the bigger amps sound better and have a better response

You know me, Roe...no one is a bigger fan of powerful, loud amps than I am. I still swear this particular amp completely blew me away. Admittedly I've never tried an AC30/4 with EF86 channel myself, so I'm sure your clone sounds great. Still, an AC30 with 2 alnico Celestion is on the loud side, easily as loud as a JTM45 with a G12M 4x12, maybe louder. It's not hard to understand why many people gravitate towards smaller amps. There's no substitute for the real thing though, so if what you're looking for is the sound of 4 X EL34s pumping, then nothing is going to replace that, and you're better off getting the real thing and a good attenuator. That AC15 had its own thing going though...
