Fender Champion 600 troubleshooting help please

Post by NY Chief » Sat Feb 20, 2010 7:24 pm

So I decided to drop a Weber speaker in the little champ. (Same speaker as the one included in the Merc Magnetics upgarde kit) I dropped it in and.... no sound! :x

I haven't used this amp in quite a while and didn't try it before I changed the speaker so I don't know when it might have quit working. I put the old speaker back and swapped out tubes still nothing. I'm getting over 6 volts heater voltage to both tubes. Anybody have a voltage chart for this guy? Any suggestions?

Thanks, Smokey! I think I found R10 smoked. Will replace it tomorrow and see what I get. Very helpful!

You're welcome chief. Smoked a 2 watter, you should check that 6V6 and make sure it's not the culprit. Check R26 as well.

Thanks again, Smokey! :D

I did read somewhere (here, I think) that the EH 6V6's caused someone similar trouble. Will check R26 also. Gotta run down to rat shack for an R replacememt.

Of course Shit Shack does not stock a 2 watt, 470ohm. :x

And George doesn't have any listed in the store. This is gonna become another one of the those endless 5 minute fix jobs. I can see it already.....

BTW, the schem calls out a Fr470 resistor. What does "Fr" mean? It looks like plain metal oxide R.

Looks like the Fr question was answered in the other thread. I can check and see if I have one I can send to you Chief. Also Hoffman has some 3W metal film.

That was it! Changed out R10 AND the 6v6. Didn't want to even give a bad 6V6 an option of taking out the resistor again. Very cool little amp Communication Breakdown tone!

Thanks for your help, Smokey!

If you ever need parts like that call me. I've got bins (literally) of 470s.

Nothing too old, but I have a '80 Capri Orange I'm thinking of selling. Possibly a '74 in Black and an '81 Sienna Burst. Both of these really should have seom new frets put in. We'll see how it goes. Played my '66 out last night. Oh yeah, that one isn't getting sold anytime soon
