Apologies if this has been discussed already in the 1 wire thread.
After a resurgence of interest in Ed using a Bassman/Bandmaster, and at least one interview where he mentioned plugging into the Ext Spkr Jack and diming it (distortion at low volume) I thought I'd take another listen to this audio nugget that's been floating around the bootleg forums and now YT: Allegedly Ed in 1974 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dl-Y3nx4xsw
It does have a weird compression/gain to it. Not pinch harmonic squealing over the top madness by any means, but interesting. I'm wondering if this is his Fender head using the Ext Spkr jack. anybody have a similar head and willing to recreate this odd setup - at risk of blowing up your vintage gear - and recording it?

Hey Twisty, get in touch with Rob Galpin. rgalpin here on the board. He did the Bassman Ext speaker thing into the input of a Marshall and it sounding pretty freakin good.
He had the clip on his soundclick page not sure if it is still there.
Yeah, we explored just about every avenue having to do with brown, that was a lot of fun here a few years back!

Here's the clip of that...

Bassman head I've had since '79. I think it's like a 72? Silverface. So, this is the Ext Spkr jack run into a plexi front end. I saw no smoke but as soon as i did this little clip, i quickly unplugged everything and went and had a smoke... just to get over it.
btw - eruption? i learned just enough to say "hmmm yeah... pretty good." but the tone makes for an interesting comparison to the album tones.

this clip is the same as above but i eq'd it some to get it closer - then at the end of this clip, you hear a bit of the album to get the comparison right there in A/B fashion.
