Landry Amps LS100G3R content!

I rarely post on the intra-webz unless I really think something is worth mentioning, that other guitar players might enjoy or really benefit from. Enter Landry Amps...As far as small boutique channel switchers go, or the modded marshall tone with a proper vintage flavor, you HAVE to do yourself a real favor and hear one of these amps!!!

I recently had the pleasure of spending time with Bill Landry of Landry Amplification. Bill is a super-humble, modest, talented amp builder, and has great rock chops, to boot. Bill came down to SKH Studios in Florida, and we spent a few days working alongside Dave Linsk of Overkill and Speed/Kill/Hate fame, in a professional studio recording environment, tweaking and tuning some of Bill's really cool custom handmade amps, known as the Landry LS100 and the newer Landry G3 R (the refined, recording version of the amp which is now the main design Bill is building.)

I have to say, after some minor tweaking, recording, revising, and dialing in, the resulting amps are absolutely killer!!!! Bill's amps really are a very plexi-voiced tonality, and actually DO sound like REAL old super-hot-rodded vintage marshalls, unlike most of the other boutique higher gain guys or channel switcher designs out there that "sort of" sound like a more modern, darker marshall of sorts.

For the classic to heavy rock player, this newest variant of the Landry G3 amp absolutely has to be played and heard, to believe how well they now totally nail and deliver the vintage marshall goods, but with absolutely no pedals, tons of gain on tap, extra foot-switchable gain stage, great on-board spring reverb, great effects loop, and a killer fender clean channel as well. These are serious pro tools!!!

I was so blown away, I wound up buying two of these amazing handmade boutique Landry amps, now hand-tuned by Bill. I'm a metal guy at heart, but I can't STOP playing them! FREAKING TONE!!!! I own a real 1969 plexi, other old marshalls and clones, and I can't get enough of my Landry LS100G3R into real vintage 1972 G12M greenbacks.

Check out the revised G3 amps, they're the real deal, no joke. If you can't get the brown sound, or about two dozen other killer vintage marshall plexi and metalface style rodded tones out of this amp, then you'd have to switch to keyboards LOL!!!!! These amps are THAT good. These amps totally KILLED my GAS for any sort of vintage marshall sounds, and best of all, the eq on these amps is so flexible that it sounds GREAT with every single celestion speaker type that I have plugged them into. Tons of flexibility to dial in with your speaker of choice. And these aren't just some van halen chaser amp, they do all the vintage and heavy rock you can cook up. Check it!!!!!!

And no, I have no affiliation with Landry amps, other than now I own and can't stop playing on them!!! LOL!!!

Every time I hear a Landry amp clip it instantly reminds of the Mod5 sound, especially VH riffs, but also ACDC etc...
I'd say it's very similar to a standard 2203 cascaded preamp with some of the Mod5-ish or similar tweaks (ie 2n2 plate coupler, V2a gain boosting "fat" cap, PPIMV etc)
To me it does not sound like the real thing (Super Lead) but it does sound like a slightly tweaked 2203 with a EFX loop, which is a good thing but If I were interested in that sound I'd buy a nice used 2203/4 and order a Metro-SDM No Loss loop...

I have two of these Landrys, several 2203's, a 2204's, a '69 plexi, and some clones. The Landrys actually sound and feel nothing at all like the 2203/2204. They don't have the same eq, have a different attack, are much tighter, have much more midrange, have a depth control, and have none of the preamp gain "chippy fizzle" that my 2203's have. In person, the Landrys do sound a lot like a super lead that was boosted with a pedal such as a tube screamer, but without ANY of the bass loss, filler noise and honky mids the pedal will bring. The clean channel is fender twin all the way, the crunch channel is kinda like a cranked SL metal face but with a master volume, and the high gain channel is like a plexi boosted with an overdrive, but to me it is way better sound quality than having to boost with a pedal. I have some modded amps that ARE built on old 2203's, and they are much more "metal" sounding. The Landrys are way more of the vintage to heavy rock thing, and they like to see the vintage speakers (greens, blacks, etc) way more than my 2203/2204 amps do.

Very nice review of the Landry! I took a chance on this amp and am very, very glad I did. It's so ridiculous. I'm STILL loving it! I recently started playing it with an MXR analog chorus and it sounds extra fantastic. Roll the guitar volume back and you get a really nice vintage OD tone. Turn up the guitar volume and it's instant rock tone for days.
