Original Echoplex footswitch question(s)

Post by Tazin » Thu Oct 31, 2013 12:54 pm

Could someone tell me what the diameter of the base (where the rubber pad is) is on the footswitch for the EP-3? Also, are they made out of aluminum?

Yeah, they are great little gizmos providing there well maintained. I have a couple of them myself. So, does your 14,38x have a two prong plug verse the three prong plug that 28,58x has? If so, does the plug on 14,38x have polarity to the prongs (one prong is wider than the other)?

One of mine is 14,684 and the other one doesn't have a badge but must be a later model. Is your 14,38x a black top?

I know your question was direct to Jimmy, but I was wondering what you meant by a black top?

Some of the echoplexes have a black chasis, what the tape cartridge and heads sit on. The later models have a chrome(?) top.

Really doesn't matter much, just curious. I'll see if I can dig up a picture or two.

i prefer the later model. there's a slight difference in the position of the pinch roller, more efficient on the later.
and the electronic is more optimized i think, anyway, i can't really compare since i re did the whole electronic on the older one, and it doesn't sound as good as the later one for the moment.
the echoplex needs some work sometime, to tune it right after 40 years of service, but it definitely Worth it, one of the coolest musical effect ever. it makes me think that i should use the footswitch sometimes.
i love to use it with the Dunlop blue fuzz in front of it, and playing with the strat volume from clean to wild. a univibe between the two can be fantastic too.

Ok, I see what your talking about. One of my EP-3's is an earlier one (1972) and has the black chassis.
