Hendrix's BOG Fuzz Face ?

my project came through the multiface finaly, swappable transistors and caps. 12 transistors, 24 caps : 12 for Q1 , 12 for Q2 , just picking one of each , it works nicely.
do you have a layout, parts and pictures of your dunlop fuzz ?

what transistors would you suggest in both ? the blue one sounds the best ? i can't really see each component value but it's cool because it's not very expensive, for a new fuzz, like for the octavio. i think that dunlop did some better things recently. and you can tweak it, it has a cool box ...
i'd like to get an octavio, replace some parts, and add a switch to bypass the octave section, and get just the fuzz if needed.
i'd like the blue fuzz face. Ray spitzer , who used to play with the band of gypsys, his friends, told me that the blue dunlop sounds nice, and the guy at dunlop tweaked it a little bit so it sounds even better.

I wouldnt necessarily say one sounds better than the other. Different flavors. The Blue one is supposed to have BC108 {Silicon} but they are actually copies. It sounds pretty good right out of the box if you adjust the pots on the bottom to get the best sound with between 4.5 to 5.5 v on the collector of Q2. {It was around 6.5} The Ge fuzz was a one off from Area 51 he has since started making a Ge fuzz but it is not in a fuzz face housing. I put a pot in to adjust the voltage on Q2. Germanium transistors are very unstable and even small changes in temperature affect the voltage and gain, and sound. Early Jimi I would get Germanium later BOG Woodstock I would get the the blue JH Fuzz and tweak it I got mine on ebay for $100.00

Is it just me or...?
I can never get a fuzzface to sound good, no matter what i do to it...
Maby i need to get rid of the silicon transistor in the FF circuit.
I tryed the axis fuzz and am in love.

Yeah I also have a RM Octavia actually I wish I could by pass the fuzz on that an just use the octave

I go through different phases where at times I like a fuzz face and at others I dont. I'm in the phase of not liking them now. There are simply too many options available from the early '70's to the present, that sound much better imo.

To be totally honest, the sound of that BOSS multi distortion pedal (cosm) was much better than any Fuzz face I ever heard (though at first I couldnt accept this), though the early to mid '90's RED dunlop reissues actually sounded good, if you played enough of them that is. A jem could be found when the right transistor combination was struck upon.

I guess being that Hendrix used this circuit (Fuzz Face) is of MORE importance than if other circuits sound better.

I actually wanted to have just the octave part of the circuit without the fuzz on the Octavia. I recently got the Dunlop Octavio and the RM sounds way better. I only wish he had put better transistors in there the those MPS A18's

yeah, it would be a good idea to perform a fuzz/octave mod, i could have fun with mine . maybe it's as simple as bypassing the octave section ..
i don't remember if it has two or three stages. then there could also be a bypass switch for the third stage.
