Squealing Wah Wah

Post by Dave1992 » Sat Mar 05, 2016 11:02 am

Hi guys! Just wondering if that was normal to some extend but my wah pedal ( the new cry baby mini set on the vintage mode) squeals like a crazy banshee when it's turned on at high volume. It goes away when I turn down my guitar volume and doesn't squeal when I'm playing the wah.

My signal path goes like: Guitar- Nano Muff- Wah- Phase 90- Catalinbread Belle Epoch- Boss tu3 then to my 59Ri plexi.

Can it be a microphonic inductor? I've read somewhere that some people just wax potted them like guitar pickups. For the moment I think I'll just put some regular foam inside to see if it helps.

Any thoughts are welcome!

Dave

That happened to me. I had bought a used Dunlop wah that somebody changed the gear teeth position on to get a different part of the frequency 'throw' range. After I experimented with the pot range and reset it to 'stock', the problem disappeared. I ended up doing it on my other wah that didn't squeal. They both sound way better now. :listen:

That's exactly what I was talking about. Too far travel on the bright end was causing my squeal problem.
