reminder on the 2 Vox models

Post by McGoogle McDougal » Fri Nov 26, 2004 3:04 am

Just a reminder that there are 2 Vox models currently - the standard V847 and the more deluxe V848 Clyde McCoy. The V848 is already true bypass, has the Fasel inductor, and a better pot. If you already have a wah (Crybaby or the V847) then getting a DPDT switch for the true bypass mod and putting in the Fulltone inductor and pot makes sense (I did it to my Crybaby). If you are buying new though, it will cost you more to buy a V847 ($99) plus the upgraded parts than it would to just buy a V848 ($149) that doesn't need upgrading....

I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on a Teese Wheels of Fire wah. I heard a clip of it that sounded like perfection to my ears.

I generally use a Vox V848 and like it, I also have a 70s vintage Cry Baby and a Dunlop. The 70s has a great vibe, but seems to work best with Carbon batteries. The Dunlop sounds good with a lot of effects, especially in an active rig, but doesn't nail Clapton/Hendrix. The 70's CryBaby is a little smother than the V848.

IMHO, the Vox 848 is the best readily Wah for classic sounds. The boutique pedals are all great too, if they are available but are a little pricey.
