Got some old stock tubes coming my way

Post by gnugear » Thu Jun 09, 2005 3:57 am

Finally taking the plunge and trying out some old stock preamp tubes.

I'm getting a NOS Amperex, a military grade Amperex, a Bugle Boy, and a Mullard.

Sure hope it's worth it.

So far I've only had experience with new tubes. JJs, EHs, Sovteks, Chinese (assorted), JJs, Ei, and the GT Mullard reissue.
Gear:
'74 Super Lead rebuilt with '68 metro board and old stock mustards.
'73 Super Lead
'68 Basketweave with pre rola G12Ms
'70 Basketweave

Ouch, they might ruin you to most new production preamp tubes although that new JJ ECC803 is still a real good option.

You know, I've been avoiding old tubes for the longest time just because I don't want to like them so much that I HAVE to have them ... especially at thier current prices.

So what are these tubes that I got? I ordered them from Tube Tramp on plexi palace and just got an arrotment to try out. The guy talks a mile a minute so I never got a real answer on what they are.

I know what the mullard it

Amperex: Isn't it a telefunken?

Bugle Boy: I have no idea what this is based on. Is it a rebranded mullard?
