Yeah, I wouldn't say the new tubes I've tried truly sound "bad" or don't have a "good" tone to them. But there is a definite feel factor that was plainly obvious to me right off, the ease with which notes rang and sustained, and they held long enough to hear that harmonic swirl.

The thing Im most psych'd about is hearing that extra complexity when you hit an open string. Its got that all over the new tubes. I changed all 3 from JJ's and NS TungSol to a Mullard and 2 close to mullard tubes :) It really was a big improvment I dont mean to sell them short. The low end was much better. The mids smoother, the highs clearer and smoother and the way open chords ring out now. God........damn.

Well not that I need it to be any better as time goes because Im definitely sold. now I just have to dcide how many mullards is too much.

Lol. Thats total BS. Im sure he knows he'll have plenty for himself but c'mon there not for him. Its an investment for the future. He's going to sell them when they get to $2000 a matched pair. You know how much money he's got there? If we were smart we wouldnt have done the same hitng. I dont have the money to invest though. Where do ya suppose he got those boxes?

Dan how would you compare the BB's to the Mullards? The Bugles are one of the NOS I have yet to hear. I've heard lots of guys talk about them. Are they hotter like the telefunkens ( IMO ) or smoother/warmer, similar to the mullards. I know that most of the guys here are humbucker /rock players and seem to favour the extra gain at the front end.

Ill have to experiment a littl emore with them tonight. Yesterday I was just playing so much I wasnt really experimenting other then movingt hem from one amp to another and swapping the new pro tubes back in to see how much I think they suck lol.

Theres something else I really want to do to. I want to put all the tubes form one amp to the next, bias them up, then rotate them as a complete amp set and see how similar each amp sounds. To see how much character the tubes as a complete set cary with them. You gt so into the whole 'tweak' thing sometimes. I change this and it soudns a little more like this and this as it relates to the amp. I want to see the characetr tahts retained from the tubes themselves. Ill do uit with the newer tubes too.

Sometimes you just get dizzy moving them around trying to hear whats what. Your ears just get 'over exposed' and you can't hear shit. Try leaving one selection in for a while ( a week or two ) then trying a different combo between v1 v2 etc. I think you hear the differences better that way as you get really familiar with how the thing sounds before any changes. I'm interested in the BB's for sure though.

mullards and them orange amperexes are what i have. dan mentioned the 'feel' thing which hits you more than the audible difference at first. the amperex to me are more airy, bit thinner with a clearer top, while the mullards have the mid spread which are just butter to play. just the v1 swap is enough to tell.

Thats what I wanted to know. The Amperexes sound exactly like the Tungsrams I have sounded in V1.
I've a Mullard in V1 now. I like butter 8)
