New JJ EC803?
Anyone try these yet? I hear rave reviews that they sound like old Telefunkens and are better than the GT Mullard clones. My question is whether they're a good tube for a more aggressive Marshall circuit.

Let us know what you think! I'm earger to hear the results in a Marshall. Can you also let us know how they sound compared to a real Mullard as well as the Mullard GT clone.

Some guy at univalve.net loaded up a set and said they sound very similar to the GT mullards but with a bit more gain and a bit more presence in the high end.
EDIT
I figured Id read less enthusiastic posts at cork-sn... I mean Plexi Palace. Most of those guys seem to think theyre better then the GT-Ms. The NOS guys still diss them. Thats to be expected.

Somebody send me some -- I've got eight used but solid Telefunken 12AX7's that I rely on that I could shoot 'em out against. And unless I get lucky at the swap meets the rest of this year I'm not gonna have enough Telefunkens to go around for George's JTM45 kit and my pseudo-Trainwreck build -- I may need a good solid new production option!!

Is there any guidance you can give, Flames, to how to find old equipment that would have mullards or teles in them?

I don't know why I need advice, I just scour the swap meets when I look for car parts. My last Telefunken/RCA score was pretty sweet. The only real problem is that swap meets are only around every month-and-a-half or so here.Necrovore wrote:Not to speak for Flames but check out the really cruddy looking flea markets, the antique shops that look like they are struggling to stay open, and older electronics repair shops. Im always seeing older stereo equipment/ old tv's at these places.

Ah, now it all makes sense.Billy Batz wrote:OK. There is a reason for grammar police. I added the commas that were needed and now the actual meaning to my post is less ambiguous.
Honestly, I just keep my eyes peeled at the automotive swap meets for tube gear. Car guys don't know it's got any value, they just drag any old piece of shit to the meet and set it out. But I've been going to swap meeets for a long time and this year was my first score, although I remember a few years back some guy had literally a trailer full of tubes, and I was too tired to go through them -- I'd been walking around for about seven hours straight, my neck and ears were bright red, and I just wanted to sit in an air-conditioned car. If you're in the mood to check the automotive meets, there's always the huge Hershey, PA one once or twice a year, but that may be all the way across the state from where you have family for all I know.
I've never seen a great deal on any tube gear at an antique store (except maybe for my old Seco Model 107 tester.)

The antique stores Im talking about are the ones that are more junk than antiques. they call it antique I guess because everything in there is usually covered in a thick layer of dust that wont even come off by running your finger across whatever it is. They usually have slews of old tv's and radios.Flames1950 wrote:I've never seen a great deal on any tube gear at an antique store (except maybe for my old Seco Model 107 tester.)Billy Batz wrote:OK.
