Can someone tell me what the deal is between the RI russian el34 mullards and the NOS Mullards?
Is there really that big of a difference? And what is the difference if any, sonically and in construction?
I'm shocked by the price difference...
What role do tubes play in the tone of the amp?

Re: Russian RI Mullards vs NOS Mullards
Big difference in CERTAIN aspects. Those mainly being the actual tone foundation/platform along with lifespan.
The Mullards are gonna be a bit fuller and rounder in thier sound. They are full, fat and WARM. The reissue (Electro-Harmonix) is gonna crunch real good and have a 'general' likeness, but will not be able to compete in most aspects.
Of the new tube types, the Winged -C- (formerly Svetlana) is gonna be your best choice (compared to REAL Mullards).

Re: Russian RI Mullards vs NOS Mullards
Thanks for the info!
Would you say that preamp or the power tube would have a bigger effect on tone if changed?
Also, where would one find NOS tube for not so extreme of a price?
