KT66 question
My Super JH100 just fried a JJ and my tech told me to put in gold lions. I run 535V, I saw from the post above that they should be ok but they are over $150. is that worth it. How do they sound compared to other tubes. Thanks

Re: KT66 question
It's not worth it for everyday usage. If you were recording some big dollar CD, you could write it into the budget. For everyday usage, the tubes that cost half as much work pretty well.

Re: KT66 question
Over the years I've run the KT66 tubes from Groove Tubes/Saratov, Valve Art/Shuguang and the new Genalex/New Sensor. I've only recently switched to the Genalex reissue and it seems to sound very good in my amp and superior to the other two versions that I have used both of which have been quite reliable. Time will tell about the reliability of the new ones but so far, so good. The low end seems tighter than with the Saratov and both seem to sound less "maxed out" when they go into distortion when compared to the Valve Art version at least to me in my 1974 4 input 50 watt top.
I'm running them a bit over 400 volts in this amp so I can't speak for their high voltage tolerance. The tubes look quite similar to but are not identical to the Saratov version that Groove Tubes sold as the KT66HP.
