Hey,

Which preamp and 6550er tubes are a good choice for the #34 Mod?

Well Slash used Groove 6550s and chinese preamp tubes in his #34. I use the same and get good results

Groove tubes simply 'select' tubes from the 3 or 4 different tube factories and label them. I have heard that the 6550 tubes made in the ST. Petersburg (Russia) plant are the best being currently made.

As far as the preamp tubes are concerned, you really need to get several to see what you come up with (v1, v2, v3) in the different spots. In general, Tung-sol reissues are rated highly.
