Unknown tubes

Post by Ivabiggun » Mon Dec 26, 2011 5:37 pm

Hi, can someone identify the output tubes? I think they are 5881's but I am not sure. They were sent to me over two years ago along with an amp that was to be repaired, but the owner never got back to me on it. I want to use them in a 5E3 type circuit I built which uses a solid state rectifier and a Blackface Deluxe power and output transformers. I have a pair of 1950's 6V6's but I don't want to use them as the plate voltages will be too high.

Here are the links to my Photobucket account with some photos: http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u217 ... 010004.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u217 ... 010003.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u217 ... 010002.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks for the help

Russian Standard 6P3S tube. Not the enhanced long life version. Used to open bomb bay doors on aircraft. Rated for lower voltage but can take higher voltage. I have been reading about the 6P3S-E version and I have heard some people say it can take 450v to 500v.

These tubes are a russian copy of a american tungsol 5881. Some people say they sound good. I talked to Terry and he said it does not sound very great however, They are a very strong tube.

Datasheet. Remember they can take twice their rated voltage. Terry says its political reasons they were rated for lower.

Slowly reading about the 6P3S vs 6P3S-E. The E is a military model and the better tube. The normal ones like you have are no so great from what I read.
