KT66 / CV1075

Post by gibsonsmu » Thu Dec 03, 2015 3:40 pm

Hi all - Does anyone have any additional information about these tubes or the manufacturer? I was told they were Brimar but there is not much data out there that I could find on them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the only company to manufacture the original KT66 was G.E.C. in England. Other companies would relabel tubes with their brand. As well, the CV designations are military designations in the British Commonwealth. Not sure if the tubes you're asking about are authentic or not, unscrupulous internet tube sellers have gotten very good at relabeling current production tubes and selling them at Old Stock prices. If you're looking for a good sounding, current production KT66, the Chinese manufactured Valve Arts sounds very close to the originals and is well built. I own the originals and have compared them, both grey and clear glass, to the Valve Arts and was pleasantly surprised. Hope this helps.

You may be right, I'm not sure - I purchased them from a reputable seller but I was looking for a fourth and started looking into this in more detail, shame on me. They look to me like Brimar 6L6G's but wondering if someone with more experience may know more. Thank you for your reply.

Brimar did not make tubes, they re-branded tubes and sold them as Brimar. The tubes in question appear to be American made 6L6.

I was unsure if Brimar actually made tubes or simply relabeled other manufacturers tubes until I found this http://vintageamps.com/plexiboard/viewt ... 13&t=27898 It appears that they did manufactured tubes in the very early days.
