I need some help, i am trying to put a date on the Marshall 4x12. It has obviously been recovered with Tweed cloth ( ) by some yahoo.
There are two names written on the inside of the right side and bottom, Ron and Ted.
Thank you for any help you can give by putting a date on when it was made.

bill is correct, I would go with mid 70's as the earliest since it has the smaller soundpost, and less bracing than the 60's models.
Nice tweed covering..."Hey, have we got enough for the bottom?"
"Screw it, who looks at the bottom of the cab? Hand me the stapler."

I can't work out what grill cloth it is and if it's original but I first assumed it was the black cloth fitted from late 70's onwards. As the cab is all plywood it's JCM800 or older.
So as you said Jim it's between mid 70's and mid 80's

Re: Help me date this 4x12 Cab please
The whole cab needs to be redone. I have an old mid 70's straight cab with the smaller soundpost that I had my old cab maker replace with the bigger one. It got better bass response, and sounded more solid and percussive, for lack of better terms after the soundpost was replaced. We also put the triangular support pieces in the lower baffle board corners like the one's from the 60's. Funny how $15 worth of wood can make such a big difference, but it does.bill bokey wrote:

What's happened to Marshall cab desigs since the mid 70's is almost criminal, especially with the bean counters saying "Don't use this and this, and every 500 cabs we can get a free one from what we saved!"
Never mind sacrificing the tone for that huge gain in the bottom line!
