They are expensive as hell.....but....I LOVE them in my BB combo build. That amp killed at the show.

They sound surprisingly close to Blues.

VG
Check out Plexi Replicas for my personal amp builds...

Yup exactly my experience (ok so I have not built and tweaked as many amps as VG  but have a pair of '64 blues for back to back comparisons 8) )

Metro 45 in Mojo cab and pair of Golds = great combo

that's nice info ....i've got the possibility to have them even cheaper than the scumincos due to the strenght of euros and the abscence of vat , i found a cheap source ..... so it's quite tempting :P maybe it worth a try after all , christmas comes

Be aware they need a lot of break in. Get out the variac if you get them.

I suppose a gold and a 65w scumnico would be a good combo

I wish Celestion would sell us the silver t652 AlNiCo, I know they make them since they sell them to Marshall for some limited editions. I know Scumnico's are great but shipping from USA to Europe is not only expensive, it's also like playing Russian roulette... Will it survive the trip or not...
Not necessarily stoned..but beautiful...

+1 on Puerco's need for the Celestion T652 Alnico

I have emailed Celestion and Marshall for the silver T652 as in the limited edition Offset and JTM45/!00.
Celestion told me I had to ask Marshall.
Marshall didn't replied yet I have to try again.
If there's someone who knows a another way to get them..........

I've never had a damaged speaker claim to any I've sent to Europe. Now Canada? Wow...Canada Post has this thing for tossing speakers around, not only when I ship them, but if they're shipped back to me for exchange. They are the worst, period, end of discussion.

But no other country's postal service has ever damaged a Scumback that needed to come back to me for exchange. No worries on the packing job from me.

But if you can get Marshall to cut loose with a reissue T652, have them send one to me, too. I'd love to compare it.

I never got my teaching credentials here in the US, frenchie.

Fairly simple, but care must be taken to keep the voltages right.

Variac break in times:

Speaker Imp Speaker Power Rating Break in Voltage How Long?
8___________ 65____________13.165____________2 to 3 hours for a light break in
8___________ 30 ____________ 8.9 ______________20 hours for a full break in.
16___________65 ___________ 18.61
16__________ 30 ___________ 12.64
8 __________ 100 ___________ 16.325
16 __________100 ___________ 23.094

Your variac may vary (pun intended) from mine, by the way. But basically you take the power cord that is normally hooked up into the variac, and cut off the other end (not the one that plugs into the variac). There will be three wires. You only use the white and black ones, tape the other one off. Strip the white and black wires, and attach alligator clips or push on spade terminals, whichever you prefer.

If you want to break in multiple speakers you should do it in parallel wiring, so get ready to make some 2 wire jumper cables from your first speaker to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd and so on. If you wire them in series it takes TWICE AS LONG, so do it in parallel.

Put the speakers cone up, magnet down, wire them up, set the variac to the proper voltage, turn them on, leave the house (the hum will annoy the hell out of you), come back later.

Or if you have an isolation cab, such as a Grendel Dead Room (just got mine, love it), you can hook up the speaker inside that, then make an adapter cable to the 1/4" jack on the cab, and run it overnight while you sleep. I just did that from 4 pm yesterday until 1 pm today. The noise was almost non-existent and I slept 10 feet from the cab.

If you have to do multiple speakers, though, you'll need a lot of time, multiple cabs, or wire them up as before and leave the house!
