Rola vs Pre Rola??

Post by NY Chief » Mon Jun 06, 2005 3:55 pm

I haven't had the opportunity to A/B a pre vs rola cab. Is there really much of difference? What's the major fuss about "pre"? And how do the new vintage greenbacks compare?

The Pre Rolla has a little more bell tone to it and thickness. Its is close but they are more desirable.... Think Stones compared to the bite of Aerosmith..

I'm on a learning curve here too. I heard that Rolla bought out Celestion decades before the 74 factory move. So I guess it's more of a pre or post 74' issue, but even then, some speakers were being made in the different factory but with original labels.

I really don't know how much noticeable difference it tends to make, but the distinction has been talked about all these decades so likely it's somewhat noticeable, although I've also heard that it would be difficult for the average person to tell a difference. To me, the safe money is with the pre 74 stuff.
