Re: my recovered 1968 cab pics.
thanx for the comments,
it turned out really great looking for the shape it was in when i first got it. it was literaly getting ready to fall apart without some major glue reinforcements added, and i used about 3 tubs of filler on this thing, it was painted with filler. even though its not all original as there was no tolex, no logo's, no casters, no original greenbacks-it had reconed blackbacks. but it did have the metal handles +1000. its still a great cab to have in its current form.
glad i had my old beater cab to practice on before doing this cab.
for now, my plan is to put the speakers that are in my jcm800 slant cab in this cab and recover that cab in cream tolex with gold piping/ logo's all around and the thick wheat grill cloth from mojo.
and then swap the speakers back and when i get the cash, some scumbacks are defintely going in the '68 cab.

I know this is an old thread but I have to ask why u put corner protectors on a 68 cab? Did u want them for a reason or did they just do that for ya ?

It is not easy to get the corner seams looking perfectly neat if you are new to tolexing cabs. solution = add corner protectors.

. Well maybe. I personally wouldn't try my hand at retolexing on a cab of that vintage. But to each his own. I'm sure the anal vintage police won't make any arrest here it just seemed odd and out of place on what seems like a good job everywhere else to deviate that far from specs.BaronGreenback wrote:It is not easy to get the corner seams looking perfectly neat if you are new to tolexing cabs. solution = add corner protectors.

I agree - an otherwise excellent job on recovering the cab, saving it from destruction and demonufo would be ecstatic at the colour! These old cabs do sound good and alive with the right speakers. Corner protectors are a good idea on a gigging cab but confess I always look for cabs without them as they signify pre 71 so usually have the features I like - metal handles, ply back and, if original, pulsonic speakers.Joshabr1 wrote:. Yea Neil I have a few originals from that era. There is nothing like them period. The pulso cones don't hurt either. By the way I wasn't dogging the op I was just asking. The cab looks great

Re: my recovered 1968 cab pics.
sorry guys, I didn't know some had replied to this. but yeah corner thing was just a protective thing, but seems were a bitch. its a weird cab, metal handels, small triangle things, baffle pegs, ply back, when i got the cab it had no tolex and the cab was literally just falling apart, it had checker board cloth. it could be anything from a 68-71 cab, although when i got it it had late 70's blackbacks that were fried, its got v30's in it now, I just know it sounds really good with my metro #36 clone. turned out really well for the first and only cab recover.
