Marshall speaker mounting screws

Post by Mxzx » Sat Dec 17, 2011 9:02 am

Any one know of a good source to get screws for mounting the speakers in a '70s 4x12? I think they are the 2BA Cheeseheads?

Thanks

Cheese heads are always listed on Ebay, search the "marshall vintage category"

I haven't tried them yet, but I'm planning to have a look at what the ones from this place look like.

For a tenth of the e-pay price, I think they're worth a look.

Let us know what they're like if you try them before I do.

[EDIT]

WARNING! I finally tried to order a 20 of these today, and a 2BA tap, and they wanted $21.00 to mail them less than 200 miles to my location in Canada! If you're planning to order from them for international shipping, BE CAREFUL and get a shipping quote first!

These are what I order for replacement Marshall cab speaker bolts. By the time shipping/paypal/etc are done with you they're just over 40 cents each. I sold them to the OP for 50 cents each and included the internal lock washers to go with them.

That's what I'm finding out. The only 2BA ones I've found searching on-line are triangular, not the round type.

I'm going to try some experimenting and see if I can come up with something that works and looks right.

It looks like I'm going to need all 16 for the speakers, the only ones in the cab that are still usable are the 4 for the handles, the rest are all either missing or have had SAE bolts jammed into them. :bang:

I got lucky on my last old cab purchase. Previous owner put some type of bolt in there (10/32 I think, not certain, I tossed them), but it didn't screw up the threads in the t-nuts (no wonder the speakers were loose, right?), so I used the 2BA x 1" and they all worked (knock on wood).

But if you find T-nuts that work (the triangular ones are era correct, by the way), let me know where you find them. I have a couple more old cabs I converted to 10/32 and I'd be happy to convert them back.

Right you are, I just had a look at the ones for the handles, (hard to see up there) and they are the triangular ones. The 3 in the baffle must have been changed.

What do you think about the ones on this page?

A little pricey, but still better than $3 a pop!

Sheezus...that's $1.17 per 2BA t-nut, plus shipping to the US. That's insane. Gotta be cheaper somewhere else. Time to go searching around I guess...again.

On their home page, it does say "Wholesale business is conducted through our sales office." so there may be a chance of getting a better price for a larger, non-prepackaged quantity.

It looks like they're a vintage automotive restoration fastener company, so they'll be jacking the retail almost as bad as the Marshall resto ones.

I finally got some speaker screws today! I ended up going with this place in the UK.

http://www.greenweld.co.uk/acatalog/Sho ... s_171.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It worked out cheaper to buy 100 and have them air mailed across the ocean than it was going to cost to buy 20 and have them shipped from less than 200 miles away in upstate NY.

It only took 2 weeks to get them, and that included me sending payment to them! (I don't do credit cards. )

If anybody up here in Canada needs some, and doesn't want to spring for 100 shoot me a PM, and we can work something out.

I seem to have a few extras!
