Celestion G12H 75HZ Heritage Greenback
Who here has one or four? and are they in a combo 1x12 or 4x12?..Sorry guy's to much java this morning just trying to get some feedback from some of you that have them, Good, Bad or whatever. I have a quad of black back 30's 75hz late 1979 and like most curious George starts rearing his head.

Re: Celestion G12H 75HZ GREENBACK
If you're talking about the old ones (pre 1973), I have over a dozen. If you're talking some of the newer Heritage models, I don't have any of those.
What is it you're trying to find out?

Re: Celestion G12H 75HZ Heritage Greenback
Well I actually read the post properly as it refers to G12H 75Hz Heritages.
AFAIK they have only just come out in 75Hz format?
I have one 55hZ Heritage and like Jim a few 60s and 70s ones (Green and Blackbacks in different combinations - or have used them in different combinations) although Jim has had hundreds through his hands, I just have a few quads.
What are you after?

I am considering this particular speaker for a combo amp that has a V30 in it at the moment I tend to favor a classic Bletchley sound Greenback era tone, I will just ave to try one in this amp and see I guess.

Re: Celestion G12H 75HZ Heritage Greenback
So you mean a brand new G12H 75Hz Heritage greenback?
http://celestion.com/product/27/heritage_series_g12h75/
I have not tried one of these, I doubt that many people have yet.
The 55Hz version is quite tight and stiff out of the box and has a harsh edge to it which takes quite a bit of breaking in in my experience (and others too). I suspect that there will not be a lot of difference between the 55Hz and the V30 at first, but they do break in eventually.
Maybe the new 75Hz is a bit sweeter out of the box?
I run a quad of G12H 30w 75Hz in my '69 straight basketweave cab, it is my 'go to' cab for every gig for the past 2-3 years with any of my Marshall heads (I also take my 18w 2x12 combo sometimes for main amp, sometimes back up depending on which sounds best in the room on the day).
It depends what amp is in the combo cab you are running, as a G12H is only really 30watts and the classic G12M only 25watts.
Are you in the UK or US? If in the US then Jim Seavall at Scumback has to be the obvious choice (I run one of his G12H30w in an open back 18w TMBEF86 and it suits that amp very well).
Edit: this looks interesting if you are not in the US and want a high power handling G12M:

Yes the new Heritage G12 30 75hz is the speaker I'm referring to the combo amp is 30watts class A.

Re: Celestion G12H 75HZ Heritage Greenback
Ok, then you're going to fry that speaker since it's a 30w amp unless you keep the volume under 4, 5 max. 30w Class A amps will likely be 30w clean with no distortion. That's usually around 3-4 on your volume knob. When set higher that amp could put out anywhere from 45-55w at volumes from 5-9. You need to have twice the speaker power handling of your amp's clean rated power. So you really need 60w or more. That's why the V30 is in there.laneychris wrote:Yes the new Heritage G12 30 75hz is the speaker I'm referring to the combo amp is 30watts class A.
So unless you want the smell of burnt voice coils in your practice area, you need to get two of these, or keep your volume under 1/2 or you can fry that speaker. Just some friendly advice from someone who's had WAY too many clients think they can do what you're doing, and then cook their speakers and order 65w models from me.
Just trying to save you a huge headache, and the loss of your hard earned cash.

Re: Celestion G12H 75HZ Heritage Greenback
laneychris: You are welcome for the advice. There are far too many "experts" on the internet who haven't tested things to destruction like I (or my unfortunate clients) have. You won't see me posting on things I don't know about, and I don't claim to be an expert (that's far too lofty a term IMO). I'm just a guy who has more experience than many with British toned speakers and amps, and I figure you don't want to find out the hard way on this subject.
Good luck with whatever you decide to go with!
