Celestion G12-80

Post by jimmyride » Wed Apr 25, 2012 6:21 am

Hey guys!

I'm thinking about buying a JCM800 4x12 cab with G12-80 speakers. Any experience anyone? It's for my recently built 12k. I'm pretty much after greenback sound with more power handling. I almost got a nice cab with original G12-65s but missed the sale. Thanks for opinions!

i restored a jcm800 bass 4x12 with these in for peter and the test tube babies an old british punk band and with a decent wiring harness 1 of the best marshall bass cabs i have heard. They are not really classic sounding speakers but they have a flavour of their own

This is true, they are cool in their own way. Not like modern 75's at all. I would say they are cleaner, and they throw bigtime.
I think those "beam blocker" things that weber sells would help. These sound great with a high gain amp. I used them with a 5150.

I used a G12-80 with my Randall RG-80 with my band 30 years ago. They were the stock speaker in that combo amp (I still have it) and it's the one mic'd for my guitar through the PA. I'm on the right, do the solo and the jazzercise kicks.
