Re: Celestion Blues 4 x12
the silver 40th anniv speaker was rated at 25w, not at 15. the ones I tried sounded darker than my celestion blues.

Re: Celestion Blues 4 x12
Interesting. I would be surprised if the formula for making the reissue T652 was any different to the reissue blue apart from the cosmetics, but maybe marshall had them custom designed.
I suspect the 15w power rating they attach to the blue might be more to do with vintage correctness and marketing, so that on paper they look the same specification as the old ones. 15w seems very low to me for a modern day speaker and the materials & glues they have available thesedays, so I would imagine they can probably take more than 15w in reality and might be why Marshall rated them at 25w. Unless Celestion went the whole hog with the reissue blue and used the fragile paper coil formers like they did back in the early 60's.
maybe Jim knows...

Same spec, obvious difference will be ageJerry G wrote:Very interesting, how much different are the T652 compared to the Blues we can attain?BaronGreenback wrote:Yeah top open and bottom closed on the townsend 8x12 cabs, also on the 40th anniversary cabs which came with T652 alnicos.
I was lucky enough to own an 8x12 for a short while. A promotional cab used at trade shows when the 40th anniversary cabs came out. Admittedly I only tried it at bedroom levels but I did prefer the sound of the bottom (closed back) cabinet.
