Removing the rivets from plastic handles??

Post by gnugear » Fri May 12, 2006 12:10 pm

Well, I succesfully installed some new grill cloth on an old JCM800 cab, but in the process I smashed one of the handles. No problem, I was thinking of installing some metal handles anyway. So I proceed to remove all the plastic AROUND the rivets but I can't for the life of me get the rivets out. Anyone know how to do it?

Here's a pic of the finished results. :)

Easiest is to use a medium-large drill bit and carefully drill just the flared top off, then use a hammer and punch to drive the center of the rivet out through the hole, inward.

Try and give it a good dint with a centre punch before you start drilling. The last thing you want is the drill to slip off the rivet.
