Jtm 45 tubes what would your choice be

Post by echoplex » Sat Jul 28, 2012 12:47 am

Hi just trying to get some opinions.
What tubes would you guys put in your jtm 45 .and where would you get them?
I,m thinking nos tubes. I have Marston radio spares transformers in this build
Tone wise I like that big singing type tone, where the low end has that sizzle and the high's are sweet. I would be using a Eric Johnson
Fuzz face in front of the amp with a335 and old echoplex
Vintage Celestine's alnicos or green backs
Thanks for your advice and opinions

If money is no object a set of 60s Telefunkens and a pair of GEC KT66s.

I tend to use Mullards as of recently had a stash of yellow plate ECC83s but a bit thin now.

As as far as new production KT66 the Gold Lions are pretty accurate tone wise but not sure how long they last, I have fitted them for others and they match the GECs pretty well.

I've got Mullard I61 12AX7s in V1-V3, a pair of really nice GEC KT66s in V4&5, and a Phillips-labeled Mulard GZ34. You just can't beat that combination IMO.
