Hi All

Looking for opinions on the two...

I scored 20 x .022 ERO MKT 400V and 20 x 0.1 uF ERO Roederstein NOS 250V 1813 caps

I know they (ERO and Mallory are metal polyester) variety (both caps) The ERO are banded as well for the outer foil In my last three builds, I've just used the m150 and performed a outer foil test with the O scope and marked the caps accordingly and installed the caps with the band toward the tube side of the board. The amps are DEAD QUIET The Mallory sound excellent for me however just looking for opinions as to whether hold off two weeks for the ERO to come or proceed with the Mallory...

I have all the coupling caps here (M150 from Valve Storm) for a build however I'm curious as to what the tonal differences could be

Thanks for the opinions!
Please post to thread

regards

Dan

I'd say if the amp sounds great now then don't change a thing. I noticed the ERO .1uf caps are rated at 250v...is that a misprint because they need to be at least 400v.

Yes. I used the 250v on the prescence pot! I have 19 more .1 uf caps now!

I ended up getting some 0.1 uf 400vdc caps as well.

I tried them in a 1987. To my ear they are more smoother and less edge than the mallories. I might be putting the Mallories back in as the guys said the Mallory sound was more agressive

Either that or change the bright channel coupler cap to a .0022 and see if that changes things

Time will tell

Thanks for the inputs!

Those caps were never used in marshalls right? I don't see the value in NOS compnents unless its period correct parts. Even then theres really no magic to them other than they look period. Point is don't waist your money unless your building a replica. The Mallorys are the equivalent to Wima TFM that was use in basically some 68s only. So those aren't really a modern equevlent to the Mustards

I know of a very well known builder who swears by NOS caps, even those from the 70s and 80s. He says they don't make them using the same material anymore. He also loves the Solen Film & Foil polypropylene caps.

Well I got the 50 up and going in its glory tonight (10).

First off I think I can hear a subtle differences in the caps. To me the ERO sound less gainy and a tad bit smoother. I only have 2 hours on the amp and it's super smooth and quiet

I have enough of these caps to build my JTM 50 and 1969 amps and I'm going to use them in it

I had to wait with the 50 watt as I ordered a good set of EL34 tubes for it and I finally installed them and biased them last night.

So far pretty impressive
