I have never used sintered magnets so I couldn't give you valid a/b opinion. 8.7k is hotter than the U7T, but I don't think that or the assymetry is enough to boost the low end like you describe(thank god for EQ settings, right?) I would say pop in a cast A8 and see what happens.

Here's a follow review after the pickup was wax potted by Kevin. The feedback is gone and the lows have tightened up to where I like them, the mids/highs are still aggressive and very cutting, the clarity of this pickup is sickening yet aggressive. The lows are from what everyone describes the Super 70 as being tonally loose it is so very hard to descirbe I think it is more of a feel thing to the player I don't want to descirbe it as loose just not overpowering or strong compared to my 9K PAF.

The difference between an A2 PAF and this pickup are amazing. I really like the pickup! PERIOD! It's a keeper. When you get tonally tired of your PAF strap this guitar on and hold on.

If you guys are curious about Ed's Destroyer tone, you might want to try this pickup.

I know everyones ears are different so I tried to be as objective as I could.

If you want to hear a super 70 by Ed as far as I know the Wamer bros demo were cut with the Destroyer you don't hear alot of tremelo work on there and the tone is well super 70'ish. Plus all the tunes on VHI that Ed admitted to using the Destroyer on in the GW interview when the Franky Replica came out.

Strolling down memory lane I came across my old 70s Ibanez LP specs. I bought it in 1976. I had no idea what woods it was made from until now and I had no idea of the pickups it had until a few years ago. It's interesting to compare them to Ed's Ibanez Destroyer specs. Judging by the specs my ear judgment seems to be ok. This is the Ibanez I had around 1976 that I played with a 100 watt Plexi and a Ibanez EQ with a boost called a Renometer http://www.break-even.org/ibanez/images ... ometer.jpg http://www.break-even.org/ibzscans/effects/effects.html . It's this setup that reminded me of VH1 when I heard it in the early 80s and by that time I'd moved on to Strats. What I had with my Ibanez Plexi setup was strong bright mids and highs that could cut through anything which I shaped with the Ibanez EQ and it sounded great to me.

My 70s Ibanez LP Specs

This is interesting. I had a 77' Ibanez les paul and mine was bolt on neck too but mine was not a solid mahogany body, I suppose mine would have been one that said Mahogany body but not "solid mahagony". I could tap on the body of mine and hear the hollow spots. So I always thought that all bolt on Ibanez's were heavily chambered like mine but I guess I learned something today. cool!

... good friend of mine in 7th grade ('77) bought an Ibanez Les Paul Custom copy... his was cherry sunburst, bolt-on and had gold-plated Super 70s pups. I played that guitar whenever I visited his house... which, up until we both went to high school, was nearly every school day before we left for class.

But I can't say what wood his guitar was made from. The top wasn't dark like mahogany... maybe it was birch.
