Cathedral Delay Settings
So, I have been trying to set my digital delay for Cathedral and am having a heck of a time with it. Anybody have a setting that seem to work well? I have done some searching and haven't found anything.

Re: Cathedral Delay Settings
I always had my DD3 set at about 350-400ms and 2.5 repeats. The 3rd repeat decays quickly so I call it 2.5 repeats.
Listen to the track with headphones as well, you can really pick up on the knob speed from the amp hiss and the delay setting is very evident at the end. I think Ed used a Strat for that, 250K pot maybe?
I always did a half ass job on that tune anyways.

Re: Cathedral Delay Settings
I like a dual delay-350 and 450 or 450 and 550 together-that seems to get close-adjust time to dual delays 100 ms apart from each other and get the first one to tempo that you want and add the second one 100 ms slower and lower. But as far as that tune- its tough to get into the timing and even Ed had trouble last tour and couldn't pull it off-he tried for a few times and gave up and never did it a the way through-take s alot of practice continually doing it.

Re: Cathedral Delay Settings
the delay setting was 378ms. You should be able to find this information on internet.
I use my at 380 cos' I can't have 378... but I'm sure between 378 and 380 there' s no much difference
Hope it helps

Re: Cathedral Delay Settings
Yup, a long time ago I did a simple measurement using Audacity and it was a little less than 400 ms, so 380 sounds about right.
I only use one repeat tho.
I usually play it a little faster because I use the same setting for all the echo wanks - like Echo Song(PG), Echo Etude(YGM), Wounded Bee(NB), Big Sur(BH). Too lazy to change it every time.
BTW, so far I've never had a volume pot "freeze up from the heat"...wonder what I'm doing wrong?
(Speaking of pots - CTS has been pissing me off because they seem way stiffer than they used to be. The Alpha pots from Stew-Mac feel great.)

Re: Cathedral Delay Settings
My CTS is stiff as hell too I thought but I don't play Cathedral much so no biggie. Upside is it stays put though. It is working in slowly to be easier. But my stock Gibson's from early 90's are really easy turnin and always have been.
I would think that it is possible to set a pot up from heavy use-but come to think of it I have used a EB volume pedal pretty hard and no problems so dunno as its the same pots in those really. I think its just hoola hoop sales pitchin by Ed again so you'll buy his pot-after all Ed would probably have the best pot of anyone Almost like he invented smooth turnin pots or something which we all know is BS

Re: Cathedral Delay Settings
Practice tapping and your volume swell for the notes...I have heard it in years but just picked up a DD-3 and this came back to me for settings on the DD-3.
tap each note and swell the volume. Chorus is an 80s must, but not necessary.
Here's my settings left to right on the DD3.
1-100%
2-25%
3-50%
4-50% ( or L/800ms )
Tinker to taste.
Enjoy
