That sounds really good. I have a question. Are these amps that people bring you for VH sounding mods? Or are these amps that you build chasing the VH sound? 8)

Cheers, most of the amps i have modded are for Gnr tone lol, but if anyone likes this tone please get in touch with me :)

The clips i have put up here are of my own attempts to get the VH tone.

I'm curious as to why you have not built, or building, a 68 plexi spec plexi. 8)

Whats the deal with the 68 spec ?

Here is a clip of me just noodling, first part is with the diode switch on, second part is without.

Ok i get you now, i did try that spec with the variac & for me it didn't sound right, I think you can get closer to the tone with just modding the amp. Most of the really great clips are with modded amps, like Friedman's BE mod, or MC modded amps. They all have the tone, all the clips i hear with everything on 10 and a variac sound as if there is still something missing, but that's just my opinion. Not wanting to cause any trouble here.

It's all good bro, no trouble.

The thing with the 68 spec/variac's/echoplex/guitars/PU's and all that stuff, well, it's like baking a pie. You can have all the ingredients but using them in the right amounts makes all the difference. The latest and greatest example would have to be Phil's, or Strat78's, RWTD clip. To me, this ends it all. This one has done it.

There should be no ?'s about it. 38 years later and it has been re-created. What a ride it has been. 8)
