Sounds very close! Excellent clip
The problem seems when it's fat sounding, it doesn't have enough cut or treble, and now that you've added some cut/treble it seems to be lacking a bit in low end warmth. Maybe it's impossible to get the right balance without the MXR EQ?

Hello Mark,
I'm new to this board, but my ears have heard a few amps in my time, so here goes:
Comparing to VH1, your tone is perhaps a bit too gainey, especially on the low end. There is also a little more sponge happening as well, as if the amp just can't give any more, as in muy grande power amp sag. But in the upper register, it sounds killer, so you are really really close.
Er, I bet it's also kinda LOUD as well . . .
I would like to hear something like ZZ's Beer Drinkers played through your current build. I think that is one of the nastiest tones ever layed down, and from what I hear you have pretty much nailed that tone.
More clips, please! Perhaps the obligatory You Really Got Me . . .
Matt

Hey, I think that sounds awesome!!! I mean it sounds so close. I don't think its lacking warmth (maybe a smidge), but that probably had a lot to do with the mic pres and compression and analog tape in the studio. I think the effects are close, but not quite there. To sum up ... I think you have the sound, you just need to get the post effects right. Nice work! And hey, that master volume sounds great too. I have a PPIMV in my Laney that I rebuilt, but it is the one with caps on both sides of the pot and the ground lug going to ground. Doesn't affect the bias that way. I wonder which sounds better?

Hi Mark:
Just listened to your clips with good headphones on: Here´s what you need to do:
STEP AWAY FROM THAT AMP ! IT´S DONE !
Next: Run, don´t walk out and get two new Heritage 30´s. Put them in your cab in an X-pattern.
Next: Run out and get a Humbucker with less output, though Ralle used a JB !, and pick up a pickguard with a humbucker cut. Put it on you California Strat. It has the "Swimming Pool" rout, so it´ll just drop in.
Rent a rehersal space. Drag your amp, guitar and recording gear down there.
Crank your amp, and play till you´re good and hot. Play "Eruption" and Record it.
Post it. You´ll be the new king !!!
Sounds grat Mark. Congratulations. After 2020 posts..
And next year you´ll demo George´s 12000 series at his booth an NAMM.

You know I like it...
The ultimate goal is to sound like you have a boosted Marshall with no boosts.
You should feel sorry that you are going to mentally incapacitate the guys that aren't so sure their Marshall can do that.
You did it exactly right man, start from stock and work your way back through the circuits one at a time, untill you get what you want.
I think this is why this knowledge gets lost on how to get there, becuase when someone asks , "howd you get it to sound like that".... well its longer then a full sentance answer.... so it dissappates on the remembered word. Also, differences in components make you attack voice/gain in different ways... the tweeking may be slightly different between the same type of amp. You can't hand a list and say.... "Then there shall be light to break the barrier of endless darkness"
As you told me, its yours now and no one can take that away from you.
Congratulations cuz,
Now to get rid of the MV..... hmmmmmmm
