It's a stock very early production Ibanez Destroyer kind of like what Edward used to play.MikeO wrote:So good! what pickups are in that explorer?

Re: Whoa! Strat78! How did I miss this?
Oh, thats an old JB that I picked up in 79. Jimmi sent me a few magnets to try so I dropped in a fresh A5 and it sounded really good. But for that clip I had an A2. Seems like the A2 is more powerful than the A5. The A2 might be a tad too compressed whereas the A5 was very musical, maybe even some woodwind type tones. The A5 is going back in.mightymike wrote:What's in that Strat?Strat78 wrote:It's a stock very early production Ibanez Destroyer kind of like what Edward used to play.MikeO wrote:So good! what pickups are in that explorer?

Oh I assumed that was a Gibson, it looks so new-ish! Jealous. I had nice original 1976 Explorer but those tarback pickups Gibson was using back then sound terrible for EVH style.Strat78 wrote:It's a stock very early production Ibanez Destroyer kind of like what Edward used to play.MikeO wrote:So good! what pickups are in that explorer?

The gibbons explorers have a totally different vibe even with the right pickup. I have an old tar back in one of my other Destroyers and never had any luck getting it to sound right, perhaps with this old plexi it will behave differently.MikeO wrote:Oh I assumed that was a Gibson, it looks so new-ish! What are you using for reverb in the "Little Dreamer" clip?

Re: Whoa! Strat78! How did I miss this?
All in fun for sure! The reverb was added in pro tools, really simple, no EQ. I should have started a thread with the title: "Check out the amp I un-modded."garbeaj wrote:Hah-hah! Cool...both clips sound great! I've always been on board with your results...I think I speak for everyone on the Internet that has listened to your clips over the years when I say "Bravo!"

Thanks garb, doing this in vid format is new to me. Now I'm just another middle-aged, headless guitar dabbler taking up bit space on the net.garbeaj wrote:Cool...both clips sound great! Re: Whoa! Strat78! How did I miss this?
Not to go off topic here but I made a short 7 minute video for 3 or 4 guys who've PM'd me about the 2nd variac thing and how to make it all work. I created a YouTube account and tried to upload it but it sat there all day saying "Processing". How the hell do you do it?
Back on topic now. Phil's stuff F(*&CKING kills.
