Pink Taco, Fender Bassbreaker, EVH lunchbox reviews

My local guitar center actually had a PT in stock. I played it with the matching 112 cab. It is just excellent. I was shocked how good it sounded. So full and dymanic. Pick squeals sounded awesome...very VH ish vibe. They say it cleans up great even on full tilt settings and it does big time. Just roll the volume back on your guitar and you can start chicken picking some country tune. It's killer. I want one!!!

I also tried the new 007 Fender bassbreaker with a Friedman 212. It sounded good, and I'd say particularly good for the cost. However, the bass response seemed very muffled and flabby. I also tried it on the matching 110 can and it still sounded muffled. I ended up putting the bass at around 9 o'clock and that helped some. Overall though for the money, it's a heck of a little amp. It does the acdc tone pretty damn well. My only critisism is that it sounded a little brittle to me. I had the little guy cranked too....the friedman 212 helped but it was still a bit shrill and flubby. It didn't seem to like fast shredding style playing...articulation wasn't that great but it did love nice big power chords. But hey, it's $399! With a hot pickup, i was able to get a pretty decent hotroded Rock tone out of it with the treble booster engaged.

I also tried the EVH lunchbox amp. Super compressed and ugh. Not my cup of tea. Pinch harmonics sounded soooo compressed and cold...seemed a lot like my Peavey 5150 combo, which I don't like that much. I played both the blue and red channels and within 5 minutes I moved on.

I played an EVH special guitar ($899?) through all three of these amps. Nice guitar that felt a whole lot like my Peavey Wolfgang. Seemed to actually be a pretty good deal at that price if you ask me.

So, no surprise, I like the Friedman the best by far. Of course, it's also $1000 more than the Fender soooooo....damn nice amp though.
