If you have a Variac with a 3 prong cord, this is what your cables should look like for running a Variac between amp and cab... Note: the ground wire is clipped off at the speaker jack sides.

yes, those are some pretty nice gauges there... but didn't hear anything about the wire gauge, though ?

16 gauge extension cord and 16 gauge speaker cable
