Interface Recommendation

Post by rgorke » Thu Mar 10, 2011 5:21 pm

I am interested in either the Apogee one or a Presonus Firebox. Anyone have any thoughts or experiences of one over the other? Just for micing ane recording a guitar cabinet with one mic.

I'd be interested in exactly the same question as I just got a macbook and want a simple interface to mic amps w/ one or at most two mics. Probably just right into garage band. Apogee duet or Presonus firebox?

My thinking has been to start with a basic unit that I can upgrade or add to in the future. For example, if I get a Presonus unit: Firebox, Firepod, etc. can I then get a better mic pre like the Golden Age pre73? or would I have to also get an ADDA converter or can I run the mic pre into the Presonus?

OR, i the Apogee a good way to go. Seems simple and Apogee's other products seem very good.

Or are there other interfaces that are better MOTU, etc in the $300-$500 range?

OR, am I just OCD-ing this too much? Well, I know I am but...

thanks

I used an M-Audio Firewire 410 & Nuendo and an SM57 to record ( MetroBuild 12xxx - in my sig )
but, whatever you choose it's the preamps on the unit that are most important.

Thanks, I went with the Presonus Firebox. Took me a while to get it up and running. Had to get the right cable to work with my new Macbook.

I'll try and get clips up soon.

Focusrite Liquid saffire 56 is also a great alternative if your looking for different preamps.

It has two liquid channel with simulations of some great pres. Among them the 1073. It also has two adat connections. You can hook up a lot to this unit.

I you want to use outboard effekts it also has routing capabilities that are really flexible
