Sennheiser e609 mic

Post by BBN-Boys » Fri Dec 02, 2005 1:02 am

Hey George,
I was planning on getting a e609 mic also. After getting your view about them, I guess I'll get a couple of sm57's instead.

Anybody have any experience with the other Sennheiser model e906???

Any of you guys have any other opinions about what mic you like for our cabs?

Thanks

Ya know, I've always thought the 57 and e609 complimented each other well. I just miss something with the e609 on it's own.

Those new clips are just that mic straight through a Mackie mixer into the computer. Don't they sound kinda distant to you? Like there's something between the mic and the cab?

And it's 1/4" from the grill.

They did sound a little lacking in punch without a 57. I don't like the sound of a 57 on its own though, I always think they sounds better mixed with a "smoother" sounding mic for the best sound on guitar cabs.

Funny i was just experimenting a little with this..I don't like the e609 by itself either. And in all actuality i don't like a 57 by itself either, but if i had to choose one over the other i would probably take a 57. Now that being said i also think they compliment each other and IMO i got a better sound using both..the 609 has a "crispiness" to it which i'm not crazy about and sounds a little flatter but when combined with a 57 it adds a little clarity and maybe some bottom with the 57 giving the girth and mid to the mix. Those two with a decent room mic really put the icing on the cake !

I use a Beta 57 a lot lately. Seems clearer than a regular 57.

I've been using an Beta 57 lately too. Great for a small room (no feedback problems)...It still gets that SM57 crunch...My Mackie board is another matter..that thing is a tin can...Looking for a warm sounding board in the same price range as my Mackie 1604 VLZ pro.

If you're every around one, try an electrovoice ND/468 sometime, or an Audix D3.......
Let's get going, 'cause there's too much music, too little time!!!!

I have a first year run Beta 57 that sounds killer on cabs. I have recorded a ton of bands with it and every time someone says "why are you using a Beta?". Then they hear their tracks and they're like "Oh, that's why!". I think my Beta 57 has just enough beer spilled on it that is sounds great!!

Thanks for the feedback!

I was thinking about picking up a Beta 57 also. I was thinking that maybe the Beta 57 & SM57 will mix well.

What do you guys think?
Any of you guys tried this mix?

The Beta is too hifi to me. I like the standard 57 for guitar and snare drum. It is just really easy to get the right tone.
