Metroamp JCM800 2203 Kit for sale , More Info!!!

Post by daneswede » Mon Jan 26, 2009 2:09 pm

This is a wonderful homage top this glorious and sometimes OVERLOOKED Piece of should I say Semi Vintage amplification by Marshall now..

Let me say their are two schools of thought on the early JCM800s compared to a plexi or even a Metal Panel 72' whatever. Yeah they are diff. amps .

The 1981 is not a one trick pony however , IT is a great amp as well for a guy wanting to get into Marshall and deciding where to go first . He /She will be a very happy customer ( I KNOW I WAS at the age of 17 when I got my first 2x12" copmbo. The guy who sold it to me didnt mention it was screwed up. He patched it up so it lasted a short while then. KA thump. No name calling becvause this person stioll LOOMS ! LOL! Im not even concerned about it. I actually laiugh now. I went out and didnt wven know but I bought my first Marshall JCM800 head. turned out to be an 82' to my luck. Didint know a thing wither bought the filter cap resduction in 84-85 and later.

ANyway I was happy a s pig in shi* I tried all kinds of tubes preamp and power. Again didnt know squat but trying the siff. types was so much fun. Way back then I was using PERFECT CONNECTION GP10-00 preamp gear then When I finally gottired of fighting the noisy gain I went to the pedals . BOSS AND IBANEZ seened to bethe ones. I cant recall the first but think it was a Boss DS-1 then a Super Overdrive which I loved .

THis is far back so there were n o mod this chip mod that cap, nothing , just plug in. I did have an ALESIS QUADRAVERB.

ANYWAY, I had a much better post before ,

BUT I WILL SAY JUST THIS FOR SOMEONE who wants to get into the game of Marshall for the first time or even to have as a second , third, fourth amp, Getone,

They are NOT onwe trick ponies. You can sdo so much with them shapingtheir tone. With mine I could not be happier after finding the right NOS tubes . the NON INVASIVE LOOP I had installed, o% drilling . Just a fabulous amp. I run now two! BOSS OD1 1977 pedals . one is Modified by Ananlogm,an with the push-pull clipping asymm-symm and a 16 prong 3403d chip which actually came in the very very early ones. The one i have is a npos . the pother BOSS OD 1 is an actual early 77 and to my sha-grin HAD THE 3403d chip. Imgonna leave it stock and run them side by sidde . also getting the KING OF TONE for BLusier tones . This i will run at times thru the 19777 MKII JMP 100 watt MArshall I own or the 1981 JCM800 100 watterr

on on and on we go with tones, cabs , guitars and tone,. just re,memberto SURROUND YOUR TONE WITH ALL the right ingredients and experiment. It helps if you can play a G chord too!! LOL!

THANKS TO GEORGE for unleashing a long overdue reuissue of a very fine Semi VIntage or Vintage shall ew say now 1981 METROAMP JCM800 amp! CANT Wait to hear her see her.

WHo know , Buy onwe,

I really still want the 1968 REPRO EVH 12000 series and an attenuator like the THD is fine. Iknow it s not the top ofd the heap but ive heard it loved it. just. With that amp I WILL GO NOS as MUCH AS I can where he thinks it will benefit most without seeming overkill!

I really believe the 2203 is THE rock n roll workhorse amp! I've been known to say that "if you can't get the job done with one of those, then you might just as well stay home".

This circuit sounds fantastic with my Dagnall clone OT and Sozo caps. I think you guys will love it. Plus, it's very versatile. Especially with the mod options available. You can make these amps do just about anything.

And not only do they rock, but remove those bright caps, plug into low, crank the master a bit and use the gain pot, and they'll reward you with a wicked clean too.
So I like purple, okay!!!!!!

I was hoping you would offer one up with IC's for people that wanted a little more agressive sounding amp. I would buy that.

Illinois Capacitor brand signal caps? That should be no problem. At worst you would have to select a "no signal caps" option and get the IC caps separate.

OMG!!!
The reason I got into Marshall's, (and Gibsons for that matter), has nothing to do with the fact that it was forced on me or anything like that. All the music I've listened to over the years, by chance, has been made with Gibson's and Marshalls.

It all started in 1977 with KISS. I have always loved the sound of the 2. Once I became a Big Boy and I could afford the toys I bought a Les Paul Standard and a DSL50. LOVED IT!! Then I got into BYOC pedals and finally said I wanna build a Metro. Did the JTM45 kit and man it smokes!!! I use both my Marshall and Metro each week at practice.

JCM800?
OMG I need to scrape up some cash!

Yes George. :D That is what I'm talking about the MPW's. To me they seem to have more teeth then other brands. They in my opinion would be more what you would want for 800 or be more true to the sound then a smoother sounding cap.

Isn't this kit going to be a JMP (style) 2203?
The topic states JCM800, but it hasn't been addressed.
Maybe I missed something?

It seems that a lot of people think that the MV Marshalls started with the JCM800´s..

I have a ´78 MV combo:

And an ´80 2203, both of which are JMP-style..

Hey George would it be possible to list the values when ordering so we know what to order on the signal caps? :D

Doing lots of work on the 2203 stuff today. I'm getting pretty excited. I got samples of the brushed, anodized aluminum too. We had to make it from scratch. Looks great!
