David Bray, Metro amp mod sound clip
I've seen a couple comments and questions on the board about his mods. Here's what mine sounds like...
Built this Metro kit about 6 months ago and sent it off to Dave. He changed out the post phase master volume that I purchased from Metro with his own. Switched EL34 tubes. Jumpered the channels internally. Clip is played through the bottom half of a marshall 4x12. guitar has a SD EVH pickup.

Awesome
Very nice and sweet singing harmonics!
But you've left open some quests!
What Metro kit? 45 - 50 - 100 - '67 - 12-ser
Which speakers?
Which guitar around the SD EVH?

Just the 100 watt plexi kit. Built using the following schematics by BillyBatz. (BTW, Thanks! GREAT RESOURCE!) Standard Dagnall clone OT. Dave was so impressed with the finished result he is going to feature the amp on his sound clip page, which will also give Meto some free advertising.

Still something left! You didn't specify, which 100W plexi kit!swissross wrote:Just the 100 watt plexi kit. Built using the following schematics by BillyBatz.

The '67-'68 Super Lead layout or the '69 1959 layout?
But if I still may trust my ears, it's the first one of the both.
And - why you've only used 2 speakers from that 4x12" cabinet?
That you get out more 'tunk' in the lows and smoothness in the highs?
BTW: Aha, ein Schweizer Wieviele Fr

Hi swissross,
it sounds fantastic- great dynamics & harmonic overtones.
How differs Dave's new mastervolume from your previous Metro PPIMV?
Which couplingcaps on the PI, 0,022uF or 0,1 uF?
Did you the recording with the amp dimed, all controls full up, with a powersoak?
As you can see: one with such a good sounding amp as yours will have to answer a lot of questions from the METRO-community...
Regards
Robert

The amp is still sitting in the foothills of Wyoming at Daves place so I haven't had a chance to even look at it yet, which is probably a good thing as I have a mountain of homework to get to. I'm just as curious as you are through, about what changes were made. This was actually the second sound clip that he sent. You can listen to the first clip here. (http://www.fanfoldrc.com/ross/ross.mp3 ). He made a few subtle changes to get to the second clip, which is what I decided to stay with. Daves obviously a great guitar player (listen to that first clip... He jams a bit more) and he really knows how to dime in the sound you are looking for. I'm stoked.robert wrote:Hi swisscross,
