Wiring a ClassicTone PT to a Voltage Selector?

Post by ValveStorm » Wed Aug 31, 2011 5:10 pm

How do you wiring a ClassicTone PT (with the "dual" primarys)to a voltage selector? The primaries are either wired in series for 240vac or parallel for 120vac. I can use either the New Modern Voltage Selector or the "Old" Modern Voltage Selector as described here: http://forum.metroamp.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2528

Hi Valvestorm,

Only one of our ClassicTone PT's is a dual primary power transformer in our ClassicTone # 40-18054. To the best of my knowledge, the rest of the Marshall Style ClassicTone PT's should work with single pull, three position selector switches. The ClassicTone # 40-18054 would require a double pole, double throw switch (DPDT) and is not usable with a single pole, three position switch.

Thanks ClassicTone,

Yep, the ClassicTone # 40-18054 is PT I am looking at.

Looks like the "Old" Modern Voltage Selector described in the link in my OP can be made to switch between 120v and 240v (the 220v position would be non-functional).

Connections as follows:
Switch has pins 2 & 6 jumpered -> PT black (hot from switch)
Switch pin 4 -> PT black/white
Switch pin 7 -> PT brown
Switch pin 3 -> PT brown/white (neutral from fuseholder)

Hi Valvestorm,

I just wanted to let you know to please be cautious that both primaries must be used in both conditions. If both primaries are not used for the 120V condition, you will overheat the transformer.

Also, By the way, I like your build checklist on your http://www.valvestorm.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; website ! Good idea!
