Hello , Im having a really hard time finding an answer to this and thought this forum may be the place for help.
I plan to build a marshall 1987 circuit with a 6v6 power section, ss rectification. I need to know what pt, ot, and choke would work for this application.... Preferably hammond or heyboer.
Im new to amp building, but have modded a few and built numerous pedals from scratch. Will be using a ceriatone kit but want to save some cash on shipping etc by sourcing my own transformers and choke.
Any help is appreciated, thanks sands

Re: 1987 PT OT Choke for 6v6
so ive been recommended the PT jtm 45 @ 460 B+ from MM and the FO50BM-X output (59 tweed bassman 8 k primary 4-8-16 taps)
Sound right or no and being that these are MM what would be the hammond or heyboer equivalent?
thanks

Whoa! For a *real* 6v6 that's an uber-high plate voltage. I've been wanting to try this as well, but have not yet looked into the X-Formers.

Some quick sleuthing, I don't see why this wouldn't be a fine choice with B+ options, and if you check the specs', it gives the (approx) B+ voltage with the different taps and rectifier arrangements.

Didn't check the hole pattern, but making an adapter plate isn't that big a deal. There's also a stand-up version of this.

Re: 1987 PT OT Choke for 6v6
Got some info from a known marshall clone amp maker.....
Heyboer 784-139 OT....1202-118 PT...... Classic tone carries these JTM50 replacements. Still have to mismatch the cab/amp ohm for 6v6...
How would the 1987 circuit sound married to the 18 watt el84 power section?

Re: 1987 PT OT Choke for 6v6
That PT is still going to give you a high voltage, and why not use an 8K OT so no need to mismatch.
Magnetic Components JTM-45 has just that. Kinda overkill for a 20 watt amp, but what do I know? I haven't tried it.
They also sell the Fender OT's used in their 6v6 amps. Much smaller, compared to the Marshall OT.
