The new sterling Musicman Ax-40

Post by IloveMyMarshall » Sat May 02, 2009 9:46 am

Has anyone picked one of these up yet any reviews? They are selling 549.00 shipped? They look beautiful I was wondering how the sterling floyd, the pickups sounded? Is the axe worth the cash? Or wait to find the MM1 with the actually floyd rose on her?

Thanks in advanced.

I was told by a reliable source that they are killer for an import and have the asymmetrical neck profile, the pinwheel truss rod, the pickup selector switch in a more appropriate place than the EVH original.
They are one of the best new guitars to come out in a long time..seriously!

Thank you for the response! Im really eye ballin one hard, for the money? I spoke to someone on ebay that is a dealership of these axis and musicmans said he did the blind fold test and ended up taking on home..

I picked up 100 bucks older OLP Red none of that photo crap solid red bass wood I put a nice wilkinson big block reissue, and SuperSD with A5 and air norton, new switch, stuff I had laying around and wow thick tone out of her, and nice looking red, 100 bucks oh I sold the pups for 30.00. I know I would like that floyd again but my ears say no no no.

Im going to have to get this guitar! When I do I will post up pics review unless someone beats me to the punch

Thanks yng!

Have not seen one out this way yet but those "book match quilt" patterns look awesome.

I saw this thing in person today and picked it up for a bit to play it unplugged. I really didn't like the quilt top. The axe looks really splatty and puke yellow in person to my eyes. Not something I would want to play. It played nicely though and was very comfortable. Horrible colour.... I'll wait for it to come out in black.

I tried one of these the other day. I think its a lovely guitar. I used to playing strats. The neck is really fast and comfortable. The amp I played i through wasn't the greatest so I'm unsure of the sound quality.

For the price it seams like a bargain. One can always change the pickups and hardware later.

How does it compare to the Axxis?

I'm thinking about buying one of these.

Answered all your own Q's there.

I agree with you. One should trust ones ears and hands, The only thing is that the store only had the Ax40. I might have to try it through an amp that show its sonic capabilities better. Anyway its not an expensive guitar so I might buy it anyways.

It would be interesting to hear others experiences with i though. Especially regarding pickup choices and other upgrades.
