I found it, like 13.5k. I am thinking about getting one. What do y'all think of them ?

13.47 off the input jack of my SG, T.S.

I love it. Nice and ballsy, fat bottom, smooth yet cutting top without the ear drum pierce (A5 mag, I believe), and enough output to drive an amp into OD easily. I'd say its even across the frequencies... not mid scooped, bottom heavy, or piercing, NOT weak, and not a Super Distortion. Its got just the right amount of everything.
Like a PAF on 'roids. (Ster, not hemorr... )

Arguably, and IMO, the best full size 'bucker Gibson makes. (Arguably).

Ha Ha, gotcha on the roids bro.

I have played some Pauls at the GC that obviously had these in them, but I'd be putting one in a strat style.

My Gibson '67 reissue V (long gone) had a 500T or something in it. It was a ceramic magnet and a bit Dark/tight sounding.

I may try the 498T sure enough.

Hey Fillmore, thanks again for those pu covers !

Cool, an A5! I played a 500T ceramic and 490r A2 in a LP Classic 1960 for like 20 years. I loved them, and didn't even know what was in it 'til I sold it! I'd like to hear a 498T, sounds like a good thing.

Here's some random readings I found on Ebay, cause I couldn't find a quick decent thread that covers 'em.

490R 7.85-8.0k AII
490T 8.05-8.8k AII
498T 14.08-14.25k A5
500T 15.28k Ceramic

That 498T sounds like the pick 'o the litter.

The 498T and 490R in my 2005 Les Paul DC Standard measure 13.57 and 7.1. These are my favorite pickups in LP type guitars. The 498 sounds like a fatter JB IMO. The 490 in the neck position of the DC, which has 24 frets, is very sweet with an almost single coil-ish character. I replaced the 500t/496r in my LP Classic with the 498t/490r and couldn't be happier with the results although the 490 in the neck position doesn't have the same clarity that it does in my DC Standard. I attribute the difference to 24 frets on the DC vs. 22 frets on the Classic and the pickup being located at the 26th fret area instead of the 24th. I don't really understand why so many people "hate" these pickups. The 498 gets a really "Brown" sound and cleans up nicely with a twist of the guitar's volume knob. I find them to sound awesome through any amp that I've played through.

My feelings exactly. If a LP needs a good kick in the ass without going over the top, they're a great answer.
And I agree 100%... thru any (decent) rig I've played them thru, they sound great!!
I use a 500k audio taper for the volume, and a 300k linear taper for the tone, with a .01 bumblebee cap (.022 is too dark for my tastes). I've found that to be a real nice set up. The.01 cap sounds great, and IMO, is more "usable" as a tone cap than an .022, especially when pushing the amp hard.

So I reckon the 498 & 500's use the 43 wire to get that higher output.

I like them way better than the traditional .022 cap, as I said, especially if using overdrive. It just doesnt take so much of the top frequencies away, and makes the tone nice any "bark-y".
