That looks awesome. I know you already have your bridge but Callaham started making a bridge that probably sounds fantastic based on how their Strat trems sound.

I also love the sustain of a brass nut and have them on all my non Floyd guitars.

Yeah, I already got the TonePro stuff. Much cheaper though.rgorke wrote:That looks awesome. I know you already have your bridge but Callaham started making a bridge that probably sounds fantastic based on how their Strat trems sound.

Check out this Strat78 mp3 clip(April 10 brass/bone) where he swapped brass to bone. It's down in the middle of the page.

I'm unsure from the pics.....but did you get more of a "red" tint or a "brown" tint as a result of that red mahogany/clear grain fill mix?
I have a '53-55 LP Junior in need of major restoration. I'm leaning towards more of an LP standard finish (meaning mahogany stain back and sides, but a "color" on top".) But I like the "brown" tint to the back better than a "red" for this project.

Re: Help With '59LP build.
It depends on how much stain you use. The more you use gives more brown I think. With the Stewmac stains you could always mix some brown in with the red. Really have to experiment on some other wood I think as well.Bore Em at the Forum wrote:VanHalen5150 -

I still have some mixed up. Ill do a test on some scrap wood and post a pic.

Re: Help With '59LP build.
Ok, back at this. Finished cutting the headstock. Paint, logo, nitro. Body I took of the hook for a better pick. Nitro I did last weekend. I was able to wetsand, but still can smell it a bit. May take me longer with the nitro than I thought to complete. May need to redo the headstock with proper veneer overlay to be able to get the lower truss rod plate cover to screw in. An oversight on my part. It's there for a mechanical reason.

Really cool Shannon! No abr bridge? Is that the way the kit was drilled?

This looks killer! What an awesome project. I wish I had some woodworking skills, but I've proven many times that I'm best sticking to a solder iron. Lol
Looking forward to seeing the finished guitar. And hearing!
BTW the Gil Yaron is phenominal. Best guitar I own by a ridiculous margin. It held up very well whem compared to a real burst.

Re: Help With '59LP build.
Its not a kit. I built it all from scratch. I have ABR stuff but I decided to go with TonePro's on this . I just followed some of the threads at the start of this one. There are a few mistakes I made but its still coming together ok. Its a learning experience on the first one. Basically I have a small tabletop bansaw, router, drill press, numerous wood files. The only thing I didnt do was cut the inlays. I bought those precut from Stewmac along with the fretboard and the single action trussrod. I hope it works!!!!!YMI5150? wrote:Really cool Shannon! Honduras mahogany is legal in Canada, so I had the neck block and body blank milled to what thickness I needed. Cut down on me having to have a thickness planer. Just out the neck/body with a small table top bansaw. Had to settle for a 3 piece body blank though. 1 piece blanks that wide are very hard to come by. Pu's are a custom set from BG pickups. I told him what I was doing from scratch and he made me a matched set for about half the price over a year ago.

Re: Help With '59LP build.
Yeah, I saw the threads on him building those. The other thread I used for some stuff is the guy from Guelph Ontario. I bought the full 1:1 plans from him actually. Plans are about the size of a door. i did make some minor changes though as I used info from many different builders to come up with this one. I also didnt have the exact tools they use. Just basic shop stuff.VelvetGeorge wrote:This looks killer! What an awesome project. I wish I had some woodworking skills, but I've proven many times that I'm best sticking to a solder iron. Lol

I scored this 3/4" book match for a future one as well. You cant really tell what it will look like until its carve top'd though.

Re: Help With '59LP build.
I spent most of the day putting things together. Have a wiring issue. No sound. Loud ground buzz like when i touch the metal ring on the toggle. sounds like when you touch just the tip of your guitar cord into the amp. Must be something at the switch.

Re: Help With '59LP build.
Not sure what it is. I just liked the maple pattern. Getting hard to find good tiger type patterns apparently . I guess if it takes me 10 months to finish one I have lots of time to look. When I get time, I'll do a thread on how I did the body. It's really not that hard. Just have to be patient and not rush the detail. I know that's difficult for some of you.somethin'else wrote:Oh HO!
