Glad to see that the 50 watt kits are back on the store. I'm looking to build a jmp50 (I was hoping secretly for a jtm50... but...). But when I look at the description, not much about the transfo, yet looking at the 100 watt kit I see that the trans are dragnall clone.
Any info on the quality on the transfo on the 50 watt kits ?

Re: 50 Watt kit transformer
Trannies are the Drake replicas manufactured to spec by Heyboer. The OT is the 784-139 clone, and I can't remember the number of the PT off the top of my head.Stretchy wrote:Glad to see that the 50 watt kits are back on the store. Top notch quality and tone.

Re: 50 Watt kit transformer
Thanks for the reply. I was hoping for nothing less then this... just strange that reading the 100 watt kit how they put such emphasis on the transfo and not on the 50 watt.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Re: 50 Watt kit transformer
It's all about authenticity though. The 100watters had different part numbers of Drake/Dagnalls fitted, whereas the 50watters all had 784-139's albeit both by Dagnall and Drake, but the construction was the same.
So I like purple, okay!!!!!!

Re: 50 Watt kit transformer
If you buy a Metro 50watt kit and specify a bass spec and acquire a spare octal socket and a GZ34 rectifier you can build your amp to JTM50 spec. Only minor difference is that the JTM50 had a very slightly different OT (784-128). You can get these from here:http://www.marstran.com/50W%20OT%20128.htm but I am not sure how much difference there is to justify buying one separately from a kit.
Edit: I do not hink Georges PT for the 50watt amp has the 5A heater for a GZ34 although this one does:http://www.marstran.com/118.htm. I am not sure that George still specs kits with a no transformer option - quite understandable given the heavt reconstruction of his business recently.
Greg Germino makes his Club 40 with a -139 and valve rectifier and you can hear clips on his site
