Marshall Artiste 50W Combo

Post by Steve » Mon Apr 18, 2005 1:57 pm

You guys ever hear one before? The one I have some interest in is a 1973 or 1974. How do they compare to a stock 50 watt from that era.

I can't speak on the comparisons, but in the reviews over at Harmony Central they speak of a very easy mod (clip the lead to one particular component) that is supposed to greatly improve the clean channel.
Let's get going, 'cause there's too much music, too little time!!!!

As unpopular as the Artistes are you'd think they'd be cheap though, wouldn't you? Hell no. I'd love to get my mitts on one for some serious modding but I can't justify that much cash for an amp I wanna gut.

Bumping this thread because I have an opportunity to pick up a mint '71 Artiste head. What are the big differences between the Artiste and the other 50 watters of the day?

Night and day, unmodded. They are very much cleaner, but not in the full sparkling Fender way.

If you look at the schematic you

Well, at $1,500 I can't say it's cheap that's for sure. How about the iron? Is the OT as good as the others from that era, or did they try something completely new for the Artiste series?

As far as I know the iron is the same.

I've always thought an Artiste would be a cool modding platform with its extra knobs and the same trannies. But at the price (for an amp no one cares much for) no way!!!! You'd think they'd be as cheap as silverface Fenders as much as everyone bitches about them!!!

Not an auction, but send me your email address in a private message and I'll pass it along to the seller.

As I researched them on the net, it seems this amp gets more catcalls than applause from the folks who buy Marshalls. Will they hold their value? Probably. There's always someone who will buy it from you. But will its value grow dynamically? Hard to say - that requires a critcal mass of folks wanting one in the future.

Of course, it depends on how much you pay for it!

its 1500 including shipping from UK. To me, it looks worth it. the power section is the same, it has reverb I love reverb and its hand wired, transformers original etc. Respectable seller. I would plan on holding onto it for a long time. Probably play the hell out of it.
