Source for Cabinet/Chassis/PTP Board.

Post by hdahs » Tue Mar 29, 2011 7:59 pm

I want to build a 50 watt Plexi using Metro plans/instructions. I'm planning on using the Heyboer iron listed in the parts list.

What I'm trying to find is a source(s) for the chassis/faceplates, PTP/turretboard and hardware, and cabinet, that are all compatible with one another, and the trannies I want to use. In other words I don't want to have to do any drilling or other modifications for these parts to work together. Does anyone know Georges source for these items? I work as an amp tech, so sourcing all of the other components shouldn't be a problem, other than the Allen Bradley carbon comps that are on the parts list.

As an amp tech I have a lot stuff come across my bench. Some of it pretty cool, most of it, so-so. But in the last few months I've had a Splawn Quickrod, and most recently a Retro-King RK45 with the gain mod, and variable feedback loop. These and in particular, the Retro-King, have opened my eyes to how good these things can sound and feel! The Plexi would make a nice dirty complement to my Matchless Clubman in a 2 amp rig.

Anyway, any advice on sources for these parts would be greatly appreciated. Also I've noticed, in searching the internet, that 50 watt plexi kits, have far less offerings than say the 50 watt JCM800, or the JTM45 amps. Any reason for this?

Thanks again, and look forward to your responses!

I've been asked about this chassis a bunch so I'm in the process too. Looks like there will be a flood of chassis before long.

That's a good thing.

Especially if we can talk you into IEC connectors and a potentiometer hole instead of that big ol ohms selector I hate. LOL

I must've found all my amps like that accidently on 4 ohms since I moved. WTF???

Wish I could jump on a chassis now myself.. want a 50 watt bass to go with my 50 watt lead.
Maybe PARK style with black panels and 6550s.....

That might be doable. I always prefer to use the smallest option and enlarge if needed. I did the same on my offsets. I cut the mains for strain relief but if you tell me your using a Bulgin then I'll do it before shipping. That way everyone's covered for whatever parts are used. Not everyone wants to do the vintage parts hunt. I can easily remove material but puting it back is another story. IMO options are great as long as you don't lose the ability to go full vintage spec.

That's gorgeous.
Block end too, awesome.

Agree on vintage spec should one desire.

They just look right. Even if the mods/caps/etc are modern inside, the stealth vintage look is badass
