50 watter with loud noisy pots?

Post by kevrockitt » Mon Oct 03, 2011 1:02 pm

Hey guys here is a new one on me...50 watt build really noisy pots. Particularly the bass and treble. When turned back and forth with amp on they seem almost "microphonic". I replaced both pots with no success. All meter readings are solid. Help.

Although they're not usually described as "microphonic", you may have DC voltage on them. Check for low DCV on the treble pot pins. If you have any DC, one of the tone stack caps is leaking, most likely the small 500pF (or 470p or 250p) that leads to the input of the treble pot.

Toner...helluva a call. I checked the treble pot for DC voltage and there it was!
Changed out the 500pf cap and BINGO....all fixed!
I really appreciate the help and the new bit of insight!
Thank you so very much!
