Neil's JTM50

Post by page361 » Sun Dec 22, 2013 6:13 pm

Happy Holidays everyone...

So I had recently taken Neil's JTM50 Black Flag off his hands, and as much as it didn't need anything more than playing, I figured I'd put to good use a few odds and ends that I had sitting around collecting dust...

First, Robert from Valvestorm made me an awesome back panel...and with a just little filing on the chassis, the rear panel fit perfectly! I also added a pair of retro selector switches I had tucked away for while. The selector that was removed was quickly re-purposed on my 69 JMP Plexi repro.

I added Cliff jacks throughout that I also had way too many of... :)

Lastly, I installed a set of PEC pots I had tucked away...I had to change the pot 's grounding (to more of a Larry grounding scheme) but everything came out very well. The amp is absolutely dead quiet (as it was when I received it), and sounds killer with the Mullards that Neil provided - this thing rocks...thanks again Neil!

Nice touch with the selectors 8)

The PECs and jacks will be a matter of taste I guess (the ones I used are RS - current production and have not had any problems with them - were they misbehaving?

Hi Neil,

No misbehaving with the Alpha's - it was a matter of just making use of what I had. Some of the the Alpha's I removed were immediately reused in my band mates '82 JCM800 that had quite a few problem pots...figured I would use like for like.
I do like the feel of PEC's anyway so it worked out well. I like the selectors too - they are pretty cool. I reused the original ohm selector in my Plexi repro...which turned out to be a nice touch as well. I tell ya this amp is fast becoming a favorite of mine!

Next on the short list is a good attenuator so I can gig with it.

Hope you and you family have a wonderful X-mas and Happy New Year!

There were, but I guess those uploading to the actual site server have been removed for security reasons, after the big virus hit. Pics will have to be hosted on an image site from now on.

Not a lot different to the pics in DIY (PECs instead of alphas and black paxolin vs brown paxolin selectors)
