what head cab?

Post by stratovarious » Sat Nov 25, 2006 4:33 am

I know metroamp sells the JTM 45/50 head cab but I read that thats the "smallbox" head, and I hear all this talk of "bigbox" im wondering if thats just the 100W head cab? would a 1987 chassis fit into the 100W headcab?

Sometime in late 1971 or early 1972 Marshall discontinued the use of the small head cab for the 50 watt amps. They didn't use the standard 100 head but chose to leave the long top vent off. The face plates are the same between the 50s and the 100s so either will fit in the front cut out. the back plate is a different story. The back plate cut out is smaller on the 50s to match the shorter chassis. What you choose to use on your reproduction is totally arbitrary. I would choose a small head if I was using a Plexi panel and and a large 50 watt cab if I was using a metal panel.

Yes and drill holes in the bottom for mounting screws. You do see 50s mounted in 100 cabs with the stock panel there is gap at each end of the rear face plate.
