uk to usa voltage on marshall 1964?

Post by joepete » Sun Jan 21, 2007 3:40 pm

Hello, I have a chance to get a 1974 marshall model 1964 bass lead 50 watt head at a descent price but the amp only runs on uk voltages since it was a uk mail order only amp. What would I have to change out to use the amp in the USA and have it operate and sound like it should? Is there much work involved and is it worth getting etc?? Also, anyone ever heard how these sound?

The amp should have a voltage selector switch located on the back panel where at least are 120-220-240V

The fault almost always is sitting in front of the amp

Since the amp was mail order only for the UK and not for export to the usa etc there is no voltage selector.

Then you should have different taps inside the amp on a solder strip and you have to move one wire. Try to get a photo from the inside!
